New Catch of the Week: Bed Bugs
January 6, 2017
Bed bugs can be a nuisance at all times of the year. As you can see in the photo above, this particular homeowner has a serious bed bug infestation on their hands which resulted in the bed bugs getting into items such as their boots that were stored under their bed. Unfortunately, this is not that uncommon of a situation, and it can happen to anyone who doesn't take care of the problem swiftly.
Bed Bug Appearance
Bed bugs are flat, oval, reddish-brown in color and tend to be about 4 to 5 mm long. They will appear a darker red color upon finishing a blood meal.
Bed Bug Behavior and Diet
A bed bug's diet consists of only blood. These pests have been known to live up to a year without any meal if the conditions are cool enough. Bed bugs are most active at night once their chosen host is sleeping. Common places to find bed bugs include mattress seams, sheets, furniture, electrical outlets, etc.
Signs of a Bed Bug Infestation
There are various signs that can alert you to a bed bug infestation. The most common signs include seeing the bed bugs, bed bug bites, bed bug case skins, and defecation. Bed bugs are sneaky critters and are easy to pick up anywhere. Most homeowners develop a beg bug infestation when bed bugs 'hitch-hike' their way into their home via stores, hotels, gyms and more.
