Our latest catch of the week photo comes to us from a Des Moines area home with an unfamiliar guest. After a phone call from a client who was unsure of what the insect was, our team went out to investigate. The 'unknown pests' happened to be house centipedes. As warm weather continues, house centipede sightings will continue to be on the rise in the Des Moines metro. House Centipedes
This particular species of centipede has a long, flat body that can measure out to be approximately 1-1 ||special189|| inches long. They have 15 segments of arthropods that each feature one set of legs. Their body tends to be yellow-brown in color with three dark stripes that run on top of the body.

House centipede infestations can be difficult to detect due to the very little direct evidence that they leave behind. You will most likely spot them crawling quickly around kitchens or bathrooms due to the abundance of moisture these spaces provide.
